How to rid your body of toxic chemicals…

These days, chemicals are all around us. In our houses, shops, on our clothes, in the products we use on our skin and even in the food we eat. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), we are exposed to around 80,000 toxic chemicals every day.

Many chemicals can have a negative effect on the body and can cause conditions such as obesity, infertility, asthma, heart disease and even cancer. Toxic chemicals are even more so dangerous for children as their much smaller and they’re still developing.

It’s near impossible to avoid toxic chemicals all together as they’re in so many products that we use on a daily basis. It is because of this, that we have compiled a list of ways that you can limit the amount of toxic chemicals you’re exposed to.

  1. Eat organic foods

Organic fruits, vegetables, dairy and meat will help reduce your exposure to herbicides, pesticides and hormones. Organic foods are produced and grown without the aid of pesticides and antibiotics.

  1. Read labels

Many personal care products such as cosmetics include a large amount of chemicals. This is because they’re designed to absorb into the skin quality and easily. When shopping for products such as these, familiarise yourself with ingredients to avoid such retinyl palmitate. Look for products that are phthalate- and paraben-free.

  1. Exercise

One of the most effective ways to rid your body of toxic chemicals is through regular exercise. Whether it be hot yoga, gym or going for a run, toxic chemicals are actually stored in the body and exercise helps to break down the fat cells and flush the chemicals out.

  1. Hop into the sauna

Once you have finished your 30minutes of daily exercise, go to the sauna for approximately 40 minutes. This will sweat out the newly released chemicals. It is believed that if you do that everyday for around a month, it should get rid of most of the toxins in your system. It has been found that sweating is more effective than urinating at eliminating BPA. Not only will it get rid of most of the toxic chemicals, it will also get rid of some of the heavy metals such as mercury, aluminium and fluoride.

  1. Cut out saturated fats

Many toxic chemicals are attracted to fat and once they are in our bodies, they enter our fat cells. You don’t have to become a vegetarian however try avoiding saturated fats that can be found in meats and fried food.

  1. Use less or better cleaning products

Majority of everyday cleaning products can be toxic to breathe in, especially for young children that are still developing. Many disinfectant products are overused and often misused. When shopping for cleaning products, look for green-certified labels and buy less.

  1. Use BPA-free plastic and avoid non-stick pans

When storing food, choose glass containers over plastic ones or look for BPA-free bottles and containers. If you microwave food in contains that aren’t BPA-free, BPA can potentially seep into your food. Additionally, avoid using non-stick pans and choose stainless steel ones instead.
